Word For It. . .

2Chronicles7:14-“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

Christmas in Heaven!

Posted by wordforit on December 21, 2007

I see the countless Christmas trees

Around the world below,
With tiny lights like heaven’s stars

Reflecting in the snow.

The sight is so spectacular

please wipe away that tear
for I am spending CHRISTMAS

I hear the many Christmas songs

 that people hold so dear
but the sound of music can’t compare

with the CHRISTMAS CHOIR up here.

I have no words to tell you

of the JOY their voices bring
for it is beyond description

I know how much you miss me,

I see the pain inside your heart
for I am spending CHRISTMAS

I can’t tell you of the SPLENDOR

or the PEACE here in this place
Can you just imagine CHRISTMAS

WITH OUR SAVIOR face to face

I’ll ask him to lift your spirit

as I tell him of your love

as you lift your eyes above.

Please let your hearts be joyful

 and let your spirit sing
for I am spending CHRISTMAS IN HEAVEN

and I’m walking WITH THE KING.

by Wanda Bencke

Lysandra Kay Bencke was my thirteen-year-old handicapped daughter. On Christmas day 1997, Lysandra had a seizure and was in a coma for five days before she died. During those five days, I wrote the poem “Christmas in Heaven”. I sent it out in a belated Christmas cards to friends and relatives that year. They also sent it on to other friends and relatives, thus the poem and the story behind it have been changed. See The story behind the poem .

Upside Down Christmas Trees

Posted by wordforit on December 6, 2007

upside-down-tree.jpgNo big surprise that one claims the upside down tree is pagan while others claim it is intended to exhibit the Holy Trinity. I’m not sure what to make of it but am not going to dwell on whether an upside down tree has sinister origins. Anything we allow to distract us from pure intentions has questionable influence.

See more “upside down pics” and info here: funtimesguide.com

I only found a few places offering background on the upside downness of the tree. One is:   ChristmasCarnivals.com

“Christmas is associated with many traditions, of which the Christmas Tree is an inherent part. The history of the upside down Christmas Tree has its roots in the 7th century. It is during this period that St Bonafice journeyed from Devonshire, England to Germany to preach the message of God. He engaged himself in religious as well as social work and spent a lot of his time in Thuringia, a town located in Germany itself, which is the birthplace of the industry dealing with Christmas Decorations.

It is believed that St Boniface, while staying in Thuringia, took the help of the triangular fir tree to represent the Holy Trinity made up of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. As a result, the converted people started to [consider] the Fir tree as God’s Tree. Then St Bonafice, using this triangular shaped tree tried to introduce to the pagan tribes the paragons of Trinity.

By the 12th century, it became a custom, especially in Europe to hang the Fir trees upside down from the ceilings to symbolize the Holy Trinity. The Upside down Christmas Trees was also considered the symbol of Christianity. However, the real history behind the hanging of the upside downTrees remains vague. Presently the trend of hanging a Christmas Tree has changed, because nowadays the tip of the Christmas Tree is made to point towards Heaven, as many think that an upside down Christmas tree is a sign of contempt.”

 Chronological History of Christmas Tree

From: Pick your Own Christmas Tree.org

“The first national American Christmas Tree was lighted in the year 1923 on the White House lawn by President Calvin Coolidge. A tree from the National Christmas Tree Association has been displayed in the Blue Room of the White House since 1966. See  Christmas Trees at the White House.

After World War II, the Christmas tree again became popular!

The mid-1960’s saw another change. Sammy Davis Jr, and the Mod 60’s were booming, and plastic was everywhere. Silver aluminum trees became popular. The ‘Silver Pine’ tree, patented in the 1950’s, was designed to have a revolving light source under it, with coloured gelatine ‘windows, which allowed the light to shine in different shades as it revolved under the tree. No decorations were needed for this tree. Very “hip”!
