In all candor, I almost do not want to post this because some obviously think that I enjoy “stirring up strife” with the touchy topics I share… and this is about Santa Claus! Nevertheless, it is too important to get back to basics and away from the overwhelming secularism and materialism we are allowing and I cannot in good conscience bypass the opportunity to share the Holiness of Jesus, especially in what is supposed to be a Holy Season.

That is not an apology for my beliefs; it’s an acknowledgement that I am as human as the next person and that I consider silence condonement and too many Christians are silent on what truly matters. I’m thinking we are not going to be given a choice much longer, but for certain not always.

I hope that you will click on the link to read the rest of the background for awareness and to celebrate the holidays more consciously. My decor and conduct has been impacted and I will continue to change and grow in Christ.

In addition to learning facts not so commonly known (in the essay excerpt below), it becomes clearer why continuing to embrace whatever comes along in the name of unity and integrate it with Christianity is such a desecration. Haven’t we allowed enough syncretism?

Santa Claus…Pretender To The Throne

So how do we understand the Santa Claus phenomenon?

What do we REALLY know about Santa?

Is Santa just a harmless, friendly fellow? Or is there something or someone else hiding behind the façade?

Is he Satan in disguise, or wholly Christian modeled after a 4th century bishop

Sadly, there is a lot more to the story than most people know. Santa originated as an amalgam of St. Nicholas and various other pagan beliefs, which is bad enough. But, over the years he morphed [a little added here and a little changed there] into the modern day, well known and well recognized figure, that bears far too many similarities to the one who appears as an “angel of light”, who once said he would exalt his throne above the stars of God and would be “like the most High” and is actively “seeking” those “whom he may devour”… The one the Bible calls ‘The Great Deceiver’.

The Great Deceiver

And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. [Revelation 12:9].

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.[ Isaiah 14:12-14]

“And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: [1 Peter 5:8].

Seeking Whom He May Devour:

Children are the most vulnerable members of our society and it is no wonder that The Lord Jesus Christ warned several times against harming the “little ones”.

At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?  And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. [Matthew 18:1-6]

And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea. [Mark 9:42.]

Our Children and Youth are Under Attack From All Sides. (note: all links-new windows)

“Everyone wants to get a piece of them. For instance, the New-Age Movement has an army just waiting to get hold of our children and youth. The gay-rights movement in this country wants nothing more than to make a generation of children think homosexuality is an acceptable alternative life-style. Advertisers on Saturday-morning cartoons want to influence our kids. Heavy-metal rock bands are trying to influence them. Those in favor of abortion rights want to get our kids thinking from their point-of-view. Drug dealers, beer companies, cigarette manufacturers, pornography publishers – the list goes on and on – they too are battling for the souls of our children and youth. [Sermon on Daniel 1:1-7 November 20, 2005 Rev. Adrian Dieleman.

[Harry Potter and more recently The Golden Compass are other direct frontal assault on the children, again with the willing compliance of many church leaders, parents and others that are spiritually blind]

Almost everywhere we turn we see modern-day Nebuchadnezzars trying to turn the minds of our children from serving our God. Everywhere and from every direction, our children and youth come under attack, even as Daniel and his friends came under attack”. [Rev. Adrian Dieleman. Sermon on Daniel 1:1-7. November 20, 2005.

Dr. Terry Watkins bring up an interesting point in Santa Claus The Great Imposter, regarding a story in Mark…

“Many parents have been “lullabied to sleep” with the deception that our children are innocently immune to the attack of Satan. There is a false security that believes our children will naturally “grow out of it” or “they’re just sowing their wild oats” or maybe “they’re just being kids”. But the Bible paints a much different picture. In Mark chapter 9, God details a frightening occurrence. A man brings his “spirit possessed” son to the Lord Jesus Christ”.

And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit;  And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not. He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me. And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.

And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.  And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.

Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.  When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.

And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead. But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.  And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out? And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting. [Mark 9:17-29]

It is interesting the apostles could not cast out this kind (vs 29). Jesus said, “This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.” What kind of possession was it? What was different about this possession? I believe the answer is found in the only question the Lord Jesus asked. Jesus Christ asked the man “How long is it ago since this came unto him?” And the man answered, “Of a child“. These hard to cast out kind are those that enter in a child. Is it because the possession reaches so deep and so strong that they’re almost impossible to remove?

Dr. Watkins goes on to say..

“In Proverbs 22:6, the Bible explains the lifelong fruits of training a young child in the way he should go. That early training is so strong and so deep – as that child grows and matures – they will not depart from it.

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. [Proverbs 22:6]

But. . . The flip side is: if that same child is trained by the ways of Satan and the world, chances are that child will not depart from it. George Harrison, a devout follower of the Hindu god, Krishna, understood this life-long influence, Harrison told Rolling Stone Magazine:

“The main thing is to get the kids. . . nail you when you’re young and brainwash you, then they’ve got you for the rest of your life.”  George Harrison, Beatles, (Loose Talk, Rolling Stone Magazine, p. 70)”…

Ho! Ho! Ho!

…In The Drama Before Shakespeare – A Sketch, author Frank Ireson, describes the popular Miracle Play. Notice the description of the devil as “shaggy, hairy,” etc. (as Santa), and notice the devil’s trademark “exclamation on entering was ho, ho, ho!”:

…Siefker also collaborates the devil’s trademark “ho, ho, ho.”

In these plays, the devil’s common entry line, known as the “devil’s bluster,” was “Ho! Ho! Hoh!”(Siefker, Phyllis. Santa Claus, Last of the Wild Men: The Origins and Evolution of Saint Nicholas. Jefferson: McFarland & Company, Inc., 1997, p. 69)

The devil’s trademark “ho, ho, ho” was carried over from the early medieval Miracle Plays to the popular old English play “Bomelio,” as the following lines from the play verify:

What, and a’ come? I conjure thee, foul spirit, down to hell! Ho, ho, ho! the devil, the devil! A-comes, a-comes, a-comes upon me,. . . (Dodsley, Robert. A Select Collection of Old English Plays, Vol. VI. The Project Gutenberg Ebook. <www.gutenberg.org/dirs/etext06/7oep610.txt>) [Also http://www.fullbooks.com/A-Select-Collection-of-Old-English-Plays-Volx54484.html%5D

[IPS Note: In the above instance it is probable that the Ho, ho, ho is being used much as it is in the Bible in Zechariah 2:6,7. The Hebrew word translated Ho is [hôy ] and means  oh! ah, alas, O, woe. IN other words the person is saying ‘Alas! The devil comes]…

…After researching scores of books and material on the origin of Santa Claus, by far, the best book on this subject is Santa Claus, Last of the Wild Men: The Origins and Evolution of Saint Nicholas, authored by the late University of Kansas associate, Phyllis Siefker. This is no child’s book, but a scholarly exploration into the origin of Santa Claus. It is published by the prestigious McFarland Publishers, a leading publisher of reference and academic books. This book carries no Christian bias, but is simply a secular, non Christian scholastic study. With that in mind, the following analysis by Siefkler is even more alarming:

The fact is that Santa and Satan are alter egos, brothers; they have the same origin. . . On the surface, the two figures are polar opposites, but underneath they share the same parent, and both retain many of the old symbols associated with their “father” . . . From these two paths, he arrived at both the warmth of our fireplace and in the flames of hell. (Siefker, Phyllis. Santa Claus, Last of the Wild Men: The Origins and Evolution of Saint Nicholas. Jefferson: McFarland & Company, Inc., 1997, p. 6)

Santa… The Name

An Anagram?
Much has been said about ‘Santa’ being an anagram for ‘Satan’. While I am not sure how much importance to attach to this, the fact that Sanat Kumara is obviously an anagram for Satan gives me pause for thought. According to some of the teachings derived from modern Theosophy, i.e. the teachings of Alice A. Bailey, C. W. Leadbeater, Guy Ballard, Elizabeth Clare Prophet and Geraldine Innocente, Sanat Kumara is the Lord or Regent of Earth and of humanity. It is believed by some that he is the founder of the Great White Brotherhood, and that he lives in a city on the etheric plane called Shamballa located above the Gobi Desert in Mongolia.

Jolly Old St. Nick
Nick or Old Nick is a well-known appellation of the Devil. The name appears to have been derived from the Dutch Nikken, the devil, which again comes from the Anglo-Saxon nac-an, to slay–for as Wachter says the devil was “a murderer from the beginning.”

Old Nick: A well-known British name of the Devil. It seems probable that this name is derived from the Dutch Nikken, the devil… (Encyclopedia of Occultism and Parapsychology, p.650. As Quoted in Santa Claus The Great Imposter by Dr. Terry Watkins)

Nick, the devil. (Walter W. Sleay, Concise Dictionary of English Etymology, p. 304. As Quoted in Santa Claus The Great Imposter by Dr. Terry Watkins)

Devil: Besides the name Satan, he is also called Beelzebub, Lucifer . . . and in popular or rustic speech by many familiar terms as Old Nick . . . (Oxford English Dictionary Vol III D-E. As Quoted in Santa Claus The Great Imposter by Dr. Terry Watkins)

Kriss Kringle A US name for Santa Claus derived from the German Christkindl (little Christ child). (Brewer’s Dictionary of Twentieth-Century Phrase and Fable, p. 334)

Kriss Kringle?

One of the most perturbing aspects of this whole story is the seemingly innocent, friendly, jingle-jangle name of Kriss Kringle which is German for “little Christ Child”.

Whatever the truth behind the legend, it is one further step in the whole sorry saga of ‘Santa’.

Santa’s Little Helpers?

Santa has some cute little helpers called elves. Webster’s Dictionary has an interesting definition for the friendly elf:

1. A wandering spirit; a fairy; a hobgoblin; an imaginary being which our rude ancestors supposed to inhabit unfrequented places, and in various ways to affect mankind. . .

2. An evil spirit; a devil. (Webster’s Dictionary “elf”)

The Encyclopedia of Witches & Witchcraft is a 417 page paperback by Rosemary Ellen Guiley who is known as  a thorough researcher.  The following descriptions of elves are as quoted in Santa Claus The Great Imposter by Dr. Terry Watkins.

A host of supernatural beings and spirits who exist between earth and heaven. . . Fairies [Elves] are fall angels. When God cast Lucifer from heaven, the angels who were loyal to Lucifer plunged down toward hell with him. (Rosemary Ellen Guiley, The Encyclopedia of Witches and Witchcraft, p. 115)…

Regarding the Occult…

Posted by wordforit on November 4, 2007

25redicross.jpgListing the very practices we are warned against is an effort to bring awareness that certain things which have become standard, are persuasively dangerous. Who wouldn’t like to know if a brother or parent, etc., are happy on “the other side”? Which of us wouldn’t like to know what will show up in having our charts read? Faith is a key component in walking with Jesus! Humans have a soul satan incessantly seeks for perpetuity and entering his realm is saving him effort.  (Bold Red text=new window)

It cannot be stressed strongly enough that what we are dealing with and what we are condoning with our silence are destructive to our very being. I look at children (including my family), innocently being taught acceptance of others to the degree of uncertainty about right and wrong. I read an article in which American children are inadvertently hearing a message of hate for the USA at home, school, and elsewhere, therefore, they are confused about how to feel… the messages against Christianity are just as pervasive and the foundations are shaky. “”come out from among them, and be ye separate…”

2Corinthians 6:17 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, 18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

Although we have to pray and study for answers regarding all issues, instruction is explicit in Deuteronomy 18:9-14 about avoiding practices of the occult:

Warning against Heathen Practices: 9 When thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. 10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, 11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. 12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee. 13 Thou shalt be perfect with the Lord thy God. 14 For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the Lord thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.”

And Galatians 5:19-21 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Some may not understand why God is so emphatic in His warnings against playing around with activities which seem harmless in fictionalized book versions, but satan is there, waiting to give you false power and knowledge, except that his is limited, so how much can he share of “not much”? He is, however, smarter than the average bear. The demons have been roaming for centuries, they know human nature and how to convince us that we are something we aren’t, whether it’s an inflated or deflated image. Frankly, I think the pride in not wanting to be made a fool of by unclean spirits is an acceptable type of pride! More importantly, though, is the aversion to allowing Jesus to be made into a joke!

Simply put, satan has already betrayed Almighty God, therefore, we are not to dabble in the realms of darkness, inviting and encouraging demonic motion. They know exactly what they’re doing!

Other verses I find relevant are Mark 1:24-26, indicating demons know Jesus,  the plan of salvation in James 2: 19, and Matthew 8:28-29 which tells that they know they’re doomed. Demons also have a well-developed system of doctrine 1Timothy 4:1-3.

Mark 1:24-26  Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God. 25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Hold thy peace, and come out of him“. 26 And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him.

James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

The Gergesene Demoniacs: Matthew8:28 And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way. 29 And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time? (Note: “before the time?” Literally, before their time is up!)

Prediction of Apostasy: 1Timothy 4:1-3 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

God offers All, satan will deceive and make unfulfilled promises. In the end, satan will gladly take any of us to hell with him and these (below) are avenues for opening the door to his entire host. Jesus has defeated death and satan, all we have to do is BELIEVE IN JESUS AS THE SON OF GOD, THE SAVIOR. FREE invitation to heaven!!

Please, learn to recognize these and when something sounds remotely unbiblical.

Inviting Trouble

Posted by wordforit on October 23, 2007

In writing the previous post regarding Halloween and trick or treating, I was thinking more along the lines of Christians NOT living in fear than the actual holiday. The holiday and celebrations cannot affect us negatively if we are girded with the Spirit of God, standing strong against evil.

Word For It: Gird: to prepare (oneself) for action; to provide, equip, or invest, as with power or strength.

(Links throughout open in new windows. They are pertinent and informative!)

If we, however, seek powers in things of darkness, demons are given an invitation to enter, whether without or within, our being. “Global Culture” has become so saturated with “tolerance” that satanic worship is barely discernible by either side of the light/ darkness. When we awaken, when we lie down to sleep, and all times between should be spent in prayer. It does not need to be structured, just an awareness of His presence and our need for Him.

Word For It: Discernible: perceptible by the senses or intellect; “things happen in the earth and sky with no discernible cause”; “the newspaper reports no discernible progress in the negotiations”; “the skyline is easily discernible even at a distance of several miles”

For clarity, I constantly reach for my Ryrie Study Bible, KJV: “Demon possession means a demon residing in a person, exerting direct control and influence over that person, with certain derangement of mind and/or body. Demon possession is to be distinguished from demon influence or demon activity in relation to a person. The work of the demon in the latter [activity] is from the outside; in demon possession [influence] it is from within. By this definition a Christian cannot be possessed by a demon since he is already indwelt by the Holy Spirit. However, a believer can be the target of demonic activity to such an extent that he may give the appearance of demon possession.” p. 1838

Speaking personally, even though I am a child of God with the Holy Spirit indwelling, I expend enough effort staying out of trouble without playing around where we have clearly been instructed to avoid.

Deuteronomy 18: 9-14:  Warning against Heathen Practices

“9 When thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.

One does not need to be standing in front of an altar, chanting, to worship; worship is priorities. Does God have a voice in decisions of common issues? He should be the ultimate consultant we seek in matters of how, when and where we spend time; He wants us to smile and enjoy life but it seems society (i.e., Hollywood, media outlets, merchandisers) thinks that’s not possible without depravity. Are we supporting the hosts of Satan without even noticing?

The only reason I think a Christian would be reading Harry Potter books is to educate oneself in responding to all the hoopla. Personally, I do not support JK Rowling or the “art of wizardry”. I recall the first book being required reading by one of the local sixth grade teachers and the first book was informative enough to know the context well enough to deduce the detriment to souls. I read an article recently in which Rowling sarcastically stated that she is sure religious people would be outraged all over again after she “outed” a gay character.

According to sources, JK “Rowling is a graduate of Exeter University in England, and is very familiar with occultic practices, using elements and philosophies behind “pagan religions, Celtic religions, the religions of the druids, witchcraft, [and] satanism“. Caryl Matrisciana in Harry Potter: Witchcraft Repackaged © 2001, Jeremiah Films.

“…I’ve been researching world religions for 25 years, but young children who are only 7, 8, 9, or 10 years old, computer friendly, going into the internet, going into Wiccan sites, and being taught about Harry Potter or the view on witchcraft through their world view, through their sympathetic world view, it’s very dangerous for our children. They are getting confused, and one can see that in the letters that you read out earlier, that they don’t know what is good or bad or right or wrong, and the power that millions of witches across the world have…”  Caryl Matrisciana

“Potter” is a Pagan witch, “the female goddess of Babylonwho is considered the potter who created the human being from clay. God, unable to give birth, is essentially believed to have tried to mimick the Potter. The feminine oriented cult of witchcraft sees the woman and her process of birth as fundamental in the new life, the transformation, the alchemy, the changing of the inner man to higher consciousness, which is what Harry Potter is all about… This is an upside down reversal of what a Christian believes. When they come into a personal relationship with Christ they are transformed and take on the mind of Christ.” Caryl Matrisciana in Harry Potter: Witchcraft Repackaged © 2001, Jeremiah Films.  Christian Answers

Connie Neal: “What’s a Christian to do with Harry Potter?”

It’s the “greatest evangelistic opportunity the church ever missed,” Neal said. Associated Baptist Press

What does it mean to be “girded in the spirit”? It is putting on the armor of light, the armor of God, and believing that He is omniscient, omnipresent and omnipotent.

*Omniscient: Having total knowledge; knowing everything: an omniscient deity; the omniscient narrator.

*Omnipresent: Present everywhere at the same time: the omnipresent God.

*Omnipotent: Having unlimited or universal power, authority, or force; all-powerful

If we truly believe God in all matters, it is a contradiction to fear that which He has already overcome. We are told in God’s Holy Scripture that satan and his cohorts are only allowed a limited time with limited power.

Satan is not omni-anything! He’s a deceiver who does not want to be miserable alone! Why would anyone deliberately join the losing team? Because books and information such as Harry Potter make it seem innocent and harmless to learn and enact “white magic”.

God’s love, God’s power, and God’s wrath against all that is evil should be on every Christians’ mind and coming from their mouth! We cannot be ignorant or fearful, even though we are living in enemy territory until Jesus returns. Until then, He will watch over us if we are watchful and fervently pray.

Without acceptance of His promises, He will not interfere or impose on the free will He allows. It is up to each individual to study and know His offer of salvation.

“Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)

“There is one body and one Spirit … one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” (Ephesians 4:4)

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6)

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life, he who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.” (John 11:25)

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” (John 8:12)

“… whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:15-16)

He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” (John 3:36)
